CELPIP re-evaluation: is it worth it?
A CELPIP re-evaluation is most worth asking for when Writing or Speaking is one level short. Of 865 results people posted on Reddit, 621 were a level up, mostly in Writing or Speaking; Reading and Listening rarely change. Paragon re-scores the components you choose, for a fee per component, within six months of the test.
What people reported
We read every public Reddit post and comment we could find about CELPIP re-evaluation from April 16, 2025 to October 16, 2026, most of them on r/CELPIP_Guide, and counted the results people said they got.
| Result after re-evaluation | Posts and comments |
|---|---|
| A level went up | 621 |
| No change | 243 |
| A level went down | 1 |
Of the increases that named the skill, 306 were in Writing and 200 in Speaking. The most common story: Writing 8 raised to 9, 10 or 11, with the answer in about 2 to 7 days.
These are self-reports, not an official rate. People whose score went up post about it more than people whose score stayed the same, many never post at all, and 452 more were still waiting for an answer. Read them as a sign that Writing and Speaking levels do move, not as your odds.

When it is worth asking
- Writing or Speaking is one level below your target, such as CLB 8 when you need 9: the change people report most.
- Your other skills already meet your target, so this one level is all that stands between you and it.
- You are working to a deadline, such as an application, and would rather wait a week or two than book and sit the whole test again.
- The level is well below what your practice and earlier tests showed in that skill.
When it usually isn't
- Reading or Listening: Paragon says a re-evaluation of these is unlikely to change your score, as they are computer rated.
- You are short in several skills: each component has its own fee, and a retake after more practice may serve you better.
- You can't afford to lose the fee: a request is final and can't be cancelled, and the fee comes back only if the level changes.

Deadline, fee and refund
- Ask within six months of your test date, online in your CELPIP account. You can ask for some or all of the four components.
- The fee depends on which components you choose, and you pay it when you apply in your CELPIP account; Paragon's public pages give no amount.
- If a re-evaluated component's level changes, Paragon refunds that component's fee. Its policy page words this as a level that goes up in Writing or Speaking.
- Each component can be re-evaluated only once, and a request can't be cancelled once you submit it.

How long it takes
Paragon says results come in about one to two weeks after you apply and pay, in your CELPIP account. In the posts we read, most answers came in about 2 to 7 days.

Before you book again
If your level stays the same, a timed mock test in the official format shows which skill to work on before your next test.
