How to practise for CELPIP: what a full mock test contains
CELPIP-General is taken on a computer in one sitting of 2 hours 50 minutes, with the four skills in a fixed order. A full mock puts you through the same sections, timers and order, so test day holds fewer surprises.

What a full mock contains
The sections come in this order, each with its own time limit.
| Section | Parts or tasks | Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 6 parts | 38 | 46–55 min |
| Reading | 4 parts | 38 | 43–56 min |
| Writing | 2 tasks | Rated responses | 53 min |
| Speaking | 8 tasks | Rated responses | 15 min |
Speaking also starts with a practice task that is not scored.
How to practise each skill
Listening
- Practise hearing each recording once: in the test it plays one time, with no replay.
- Note who says what and why as you listen; many questions turn on a speaker's reason or opinion.
- Learn each part's setting, from a problem solved in a conversation to a news item and a discussion, so the format never slows you down.
Reading
- Work to each part's own timer: Reading parts run 9 to 13 minutes each.
- Skim the questions before the passage, so you read with a purpose.
- Review every wrong answer and find the sentence that holds the right one.
Writing
- Write to the length each task asks for, about 150 to 200 words, with a word counter in view.
- Spend the first minutes planning, write, and keep time at the end to check.
- In the email task, answer every point the prompt lists; in the survey task, give clear reasons for the option you choose.
Speaking
- Use the preparation time, 30 to 60 seconds, to plan two or three points.
- Keep talking for the full recording time, 60 to 90 seconds, without long pauses.
- Record yourself and listen back for clarity, range of words and how your ideas connect.
Full mocks and single tasks
Single tasks help you drill a weak spot. A full mock shows how your skills hold up over the whole sitting, under every timer at once. Mix both, and take a full mock as your test date gets close.
