CELPIP score chart and CELPIP to CLB converter

A CELPIP-General score report gives a level for each skill. For immigration, IRCC reads each CELPIP level as the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of the same number: CELPIP 9 is CLB 9. Use the converter to see your CLB levels, the Express Entry points they earn and the programs whose language minimums they meet.

CELPIP Listening score chart

Listening and Reading are marked by how many of the 38 questions you answer correctly. Paragon publishes an approximate guide from correct answers to CELPIP level. Its ranges overlap because each test form is calibrated on its own, so the same count can mean a different level on a different form.

Questions

Is CELPIP 9 the same as CLB 9?
Yes. For immigration, IRCC reads each CELPIP-General level as the CLB level with the same number, in every skill.
What CELPIP score do I need for Express Entry?
The Federal Skilled Worker Program needs CLB 7 in every skill. The Canadian Experience Class needs CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 jobs and CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 jobs. Higher levels earn more CRS points.
What CELPIP score do I need for citizenship?
Applicants aged 18 to 54 need CLB 4 or higher in speaking and listening. IRCC accepts CELPIP-General, or its Listening and Speaking test, with a level of 4 or higher in both.
