Hi Raj,

I know we said Northgate last week, but I've changed my mind. Since we both stay late before deadlines, I'd rule out blank 1, even though it's the cheapest. Elm Street is well within what we agreed to spend, but I've seen that floor, and I can't think with dozens of people around me. Northgate is closer to my place, but we'd have to pay for parking every day, and you drive in from the island.

So my vote goes to blank 2: we'd each have a desk of our own in a quiet room, parking costs nothing, and we'd get blank 3 of meeting-room time every week, which should be plenty for our calls. It closes at blank 4, which is fine unless we're up all night before a launch. The only thing I'm not sure about is lunch; the website says the kitchen has blank 5, so we'd still need to go out to eat.

Could you call them tomorrow and ask whether we can try it for a week first? I'm with clients all day. And Mum asked me to remind you about her birthday dinner on Sunday.

  1. Question 1: answer and explanation

The answer is “Riverside”. The cheapest space closes at 6 p.m. on weekdays only.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • Northgate: Northgate is open until 11 p.m. and is not the cheapest.
    • Elm Street: Elm Street is open all night.
    • Quay House: Quay House is the one she recommends.
  2. Question 2: answer and explanation

The answer is “Quay House”. A desk in a small room, free parking and meeting hours.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • Northgate: Its parking costs money every day.
    • Riverside: She has already ruled it out.
    • Elm Street: Its open floor is too crowded for her.
  3. Question 3: answer and explanation

The answer is “four hours”. Quay House includes four hours a week.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • two hours: That is Northgate's allowance.
    • no hours: That fits Riverside, which charges by the hour.
    • unlimited hours: That is Elm Street's offer.
  4. Question 4: answer and explanation

The answer is “8 p.m.”. Quay House is open until 8 p.m.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • 11 p.m.: That is Northgate's closing time.
    • 6 p.m.: That is Riverside's closing time.
    • 7 a.m.: That is when Quay House opens.
  5. Question 5: answer and explanation

The answer is “one coffee machine”. That is Quay House's kitchen.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • a full kitchen with free coffee: That is Northgate's kitchen.
    • free lunch on Fridays: That is Elm Street's.
    • coffee and a microwave: That is Riverside's.
  6. Question 6: answer and explanation

The answer is “brother”. Their mum's birthday dinner shows they are siblings.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • client: Clients are the people they call together.
    • new employee: She asks him a favour, not gives an order.
    • landlord: They are looking for a space to rent together.
  7. Question 7: answer and explanation

The answer is “undo a decision the two had reached”. She has changed her mind and argues for Quay House.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • persuade Raj to pay more than they agreed: Her choice is within budget.
    • warn Raj that Northgate has raised its prices: No price rise is mentioned.
    • argue that they should keep working from home: She wants a shared space.
  8. Question 8: answer and explanation

The answer is “affordable but too crowded to work in”. It is within budget, but its open floor is too busy for her.

Why the other options are wrong:

    • appealing but more than they can pay: It is well within their budget.
    • too far from where she lives: Distance is her point about Northgate.
    • no good for working late at night: It is open 24 hours.
